Intake Water Capacity DuringWinter

With the winter season coming up and the many holidays and fun activities to look forward to, winter can be a pretty busy and sometimes stressful season. Many people are often busy trying to pass their exams before winter break starts, grab a Christmas tree, plan out gift shopping and wrapping, new years parties, and so much more. With all the activities that normally come during the winter, it is easy to get pretty lost in what you are doing and neglect yourself in the process. Hydration could very easily be one of those things that you either choose to neglect or wholeheartedly forget to do. Either way it is not rare for many to experience extreme dehydration during the winter and often neglect to drink as much water because they believe that with cooler weather the need for more water is not necessary but this actually very much not the case at all. It is highly important to stay hydrated during the winter justasmuchasitisimportanttostay hydrated during any of the other seasons. This article will breeze over the ideal water capacity that one should be intaking during the winter as well as tips and tricks on how to keep yourself motivated when it comes to your daily intake of water goal.
What Dehydration During the Winter Does to You

Staying hydrated and well during the winter is actually very crucial and here are some reasons why. One reason being that water helps your body´s immune system work at optimal levels to keep you healthy and safeguard you from any colds. The cells in your immune system that work to fight off viruses and invading colds need water to be alert and optimal and if water in your body is low than they can´t work at their maximum potential. This makes you extremely vulnerable to colds and other sicknesses and we can be honest when we would say that with all the activities going on during the winter, you definitely do not want to be sick and unwell during all of them. The winter is a time to make many family memories and you want you and your body to be happy and ready for that! Another reason that contributes to the need for high water intake during the winter is the fact that majority of places around the world experience extreme coldness. It can get quite cold and chilly during the winter, as it is the coldest season of the year, and many people during this time look to warm up. This can be through wearing many layers of clothing or by turning the heater up in the house. Either way, both methods of keeping you warm makes your body work hard tomaintain a balance between the external temperature and your internal temperature. For that reason, working harder makes your body expel more energy and you need more water to keep your body running and replace the energy that your body loses over time. A common misconception people have about the winter is that, drinking water during it is not as much of a necessity as drinking water during the summer, but that is simply not true. In the winter the air becomes drier due to the fact that the temperature is dropping and wind is increasing. When the air becomes drier, this makes it have less moisture than other seasons, and less moisture coupled with the fact that when you breath puffs of air into the frigid atmosphere you lose water vaporis simply a big, fat no for hydration. You need moisture in the air around you to stay healthier and more hydrated. When that moisture is gone, your body needs to hydrate through means of drinking more water, thus making water an extremely important task to uphold seriously. In addition, when the airis cold, it is natural for our body to go into a survival mechanism in which the body constricts blood vessels to maintain warmth. This shrinkage of blood vessels results in an increase of blood pressure. Your kidneys automatically make more urine than normal to lower the blood pressure and as result this means more trips to the bathroom than usual. You lose more fluid and water at a lot quicker rate so it is imperative that you repair this loss of water with drinking even more water.
How Much Water Should You Drink

Finding out about how much water a person should drink daily is a bit trickier than one would think. This is due to the fact that there are a variety of factors that will affect how much water a person should drink. These factors include activity levels, the climate that one experiences, being pregnant or not, age, gender, weight, etc. Since everybody is so extremely unique and various factors come to play when it comes down to water intake, it is truly difficult to put a serious and best idea of how much water one should drink. Many health experts and dieticians state that drinking about 8 glasses of water a day (which is about 8 ounces a glass and 64 ounces a day). This is just a standard idea and for some people 64 ounces may not be nowhere near enough the amount of water one should drink. For some, 64 ounces isn´t technically necessary to stay hydrated and they could afford to have drink less water and still be hydrated, but the general standard that has been set by experts is around 8 glasses, and if you are having a rough time understanding if 8 ounces is enough for you during the winter than start from there and work your way up. You can also take hydration calculators that will ask you questions that are related to how much you should drink and then follow the results from there. There are a myriad of hydration calculators for one to try out online so definitely you could start cracking on some calculators to gage where you are at (if you wish for your winter daily water intake to be more personalized and tailored to you specifically). Make sure that you try out quite a few hydration calculators because you never know if some of them could be a bit misguided. Try a few out to gage around what range they recommend for you and work from there. This is probably one of the easier ways to understand the intake of water that you should drink during the winter season. Following some of these guidelines can help you with understanding your body and how much your own body needs to perform all the functions that are vital to keep you healthy and happy during the holidays.
Ways to Motivate Yourself to Reach Your Water Capacity

Drinking more water is easier said than done. It is quite a bit difficult for some people to drink more water simply because water can get pretty plain to drink all the time. Over time people often reach out for other drinks that offer more flavor such as hot chocolate, coffee, tea, juice, smoothies, and more. It wouldn´t be a lie to say that naturally these drinks appeal to us way more than drinking even more and more water, and for this reason more people tend to gravitate to these drinks over water. It is quite hard after drinking all these other fluids to force ourselves to drink lots of water. In addition it is quite common for us to still be dehydrated even when we don´t feel thirsty. For this reason many people don´t drink as much water because they believe that if they are not thirsty then their body doesn´t need water. Here are some tips to motivate yourself to stay hydrated during the holidays even when you aren´t thirsty or not feeling as if you want to drink more water.
• Try to dress your water up with yummy fruits and vegetables! It makes it much more flavorful and yummier to drink!
• Put your water in a nice decorative glass or a pretty thermos. If your water is in something pretty that you really enjoy looking at or you think it is very aesthetic or relatable to you, then chances are you will want to drink the water a whole lot more. It sounds like it wouldn´t work but you would actually be surprised with how well this tactic actually works.
• Try to link drinking water with common daily activities. Every time you go to the bathroom try to make a trip to the kitchen to chug a glass of water down. Link water drinking with your bathroom breaks so that you offer yourself a way to remember to drink water and take the time out to actually do this for yourself. It is a great way to remind yourself if you forget to drink water throughout the day. Another thing you could do is drink a glass of water before every meal. This is another way to get your glass of water in if you have trouble remembering or finding the time. Drinking a glass before every meal also makes you more full so you eat less (if you are trying to lose weight).
• Try getting an app or setting your own alarms for what time you want to drink water. Setting alarms are a really great way to reach your daily goal. It helps you to organize and think about your day accordingly. Try to think about what times are not a good time to drink water (times where you don´t want to use the bathroom urgently). Think about times that are good for drinking water and also plan out exactly how much water you must drink each time. Doing this will help immensely in reaching your water intake during the busy holidays when your mind is very busy and occupied with many different things.
• If remembering to drink water isn´t exactly the issue and your concern lies more with the fact that it is so plain then try to dilute your favorite drinks with water. Dilute any iced teas, coffee, lemonade, fruit juice, etc. with a bit of water and try to use a lot of ice. This way you can still have the drink you like while also reaching your goal for the day.
• If you notice that you don´t like the taste of the water coming out of your tap or refrigerator than try filtering your water. Filtering water is a great way to provide you with cleaner water that is better tasting than the average tap, and maybe this will make you more inclined to drink your water and stay hydrated.
• If you find yourself reaching towards soda and not towards water regularly because you enjoy the fizz and carbonation then try mineral or sparkling water. Both offer a great fizzy and carbonated feel and you can even buy it with flavors such as peach, strawberry, lime, raspberry and so on. They kind of taste like fizzy candy but they don´t have as much sugar and they are a still a great source of water intake! Try serving these options at your next holiday party or family dinner to continue on with your goal successfully during the winter holidays.
Hopefully this article has made you realize the absolute importance of drinking the right amount of water during the winter days. No matter the season, it is always so important to drink water and stay hydrated, and the busy holidays are no excuse. Utilize the tips and advice mentioned above to reach and stay at your water intake level and manage out how to be properly hydrated all season long so that you can enjoy the best of the winter holidays and all it has to offer with family and friends. It will also help you to do better onany finals or exams you have before winter break begins. Drinking water will surely be the best thing you can do for you and your body, and you definitely won´t regret it!

Dehydration – Can Be a Cause of Headaches?

It is quite common for people to disregard the importance of hydration. Many people around the world in their busy lives, don´t really have enough time to think about what they considered small priorities such as drinking water. We often neglect the power of drinking a lot of water throughout the day and this could be the problem as to why people around the world always feel that no matter how much they stay active, eat right, get enough sleep, etc, they never feel fully awake and rejuvenated. Often, they feel sluggish and still needing to reach for cups of coffee throughout the day to keep themselves on track with their work. In addition to that, people often report nausea, sickness, and headaches that can accompany them throughout the day and often wrongly attribute these symptoms to a lot of coffee drinking or too much strenuous use of the brain, and while that could be part of the case, the major problem for most people is their lack of water consumption. They are simply dehydrated and exhibit these symptoms as a message from their body saying that the body cannot perform all of its necessary functions due to lack of water. It is so easy to overlook drinking water as a necessary component to a healthier lifestyle because after all water is just water. No one truly understands just how important water to us is and are often baffled by the severity of symptoms they face after dehydration. This article will go into depth on how water dehydration can cause a myriad of horrible symptoms such as headaches as well as the proper way to hydrate oneself to avoid these nightmares on a busy day.
The Facts About It

There hasn’t been crazy amount of extensive research on the facts behind if headaches can be caused by dehydration or not, but the overall medical consensus is that headaches can be a symptom of lack of hydration. One medical theory points out that dehydration is a state in which the body loses more water than it takes in. When this happens the blood vessels inside the head may actually try to narrow in an attempt to regulate body fluid levels. This would make it increasingly difficult for the oxygen and blood to reach the brain, and this is what could be causing the headache. Other medical theories for dehydration headaches are that the brain temporarily shrinks due to fluid loss and pulls back from the skull. The process of the brain pulling back from the skull could be reason behind why we feel pain in our head. Dehydration is also considered a factor behind why people have hangover headaches. It is partly due to dehydration from too much consumption of alcohol (and not enough water to cushion the amount of ethanol in the body) that causes hangover headaches. The evidence could be found in why people who drink a lot of water with their alcohol, don’t experience serious hangover headaches and also the evidence behind why drinking lots and lots of water seems to cure hangover headaches a lot quicker. Other evidence of dehydration and its link to headaches can be found in the fact that so many people have reported that when experiencing really bad headaches, they increased their water intake during that time and noticed that the pain lessened to the point that the headache eventually stopped. These experiences when it comes to water dehydration are another bit of evidence to support the idea that indeed loss of water beyond what the body can take in, leads to these painful sensations in the head. Doctors conducted research that included 18 migraine patients. A group of patients were given a placebo while the second group of patients received 1.5 liters of water to drink daily. Those who drank the 1.5 liters of water, talked about experiencing less frequent migraine pain than those who received the placebo. After about two weeks, the group who received water overall reported about 21 hours less of migraine pain than the placebo group, therefore providing more evidence for the claim that dehydration and headaches are indeed linked.Despite, not havinga myriad of research to back the claim up, many professionals and doctors agree that headaches can definitely be a cause of lack of hydration so one should take that into serious consideration when they ever experience one.
How to Differentiate if Your Headache is Water Related

Although the medical community has reached the general consensus that headaches are a strong tell-tale sign of dehydration, headaches are not always related to dehydration. There are many factors that can contribute to headaches. These factors being poor posture, skipped meals, stress, foods that are high in nitrates, ear infections, high blood pressure, panic attacks, stroke and more. Headaches can be the result of a lifestyle factor or a factor related to a disease such as brain tumors or aneurysms. It appears that headaches are a strong symptom for a wide range of serious diseases, and if experienced frequently, is best to understand exactly where the headache is coming from so that you can seek medical help if you realize the headaches are not due to lifestyle habits or changes. If you are experiencing a headache, but are not exactly sure if such headache is related to dehydration or something serious than heed this advice. One major flag for knowing your headache is related to dehydration, is based on the fact that your headache is accompanied by other symptoms of dehydration. These symptoms can be thirst, dry skin, muscle cramps, extreme fatigue, infrequent urination, dizziness, and changes in reaction or thinking. If you are experiencing these types of symptoms, in addition to your headache, then that is a very strong sign that you are dehydrated and should drink a whole lot more than what you are currently drinking. The rule of thumb is that a person should drink around 60-80 ounces of water in a 24 hour period. If you play sports or live in an area that is dry or hot, then you should aim for 80-100 ounces of water a day. If that is not the case for you then 60 ounces of water should be good enough to aid your body in doing its normal functions as well as curb those horrible symptoms that you may feel throughout the day. To keep yourself on track with drinking water try to dress up your water with fruit or veggies, put them in pretty, fancy glasses, or consume your water through other important electrolyte drinks such as coconut water.

Importance of Hydrating Our Body in the Winter

The transition into winter is normally a joyful one. We step away from the beautiful colored leaves of fall as well as the chilly weather into even chillier weather. Winter, for many, is a joyous occasion for a myriad of reasons. It signifies a winter break coming up, a time to spend family and travel, as well as a way to enjoy the seasons and the advent of a new year. The winter season is a season of many joyous occasions filled with happiness and many wonderful holidays to look up to. One of the most common words associated with winter is also cold. The winter is marked as the coldest time of the year and for this reason, not many people seem to understand the importance of hydration even in these chilly 3 months. It seems to be a preconceived notion that the act of staying hydrated is more of a thing we must be aware of in the summer time given that we are more active and sweaty in the summer time and therefore losing more energy that we must replace, but this is not true. Hydration, even when its not hot and you aren’t sweating or immensely active, is still extremely important. This article will walk you through the understanding of why we must hydrate during the winter season and what we must do to stay hydrated through the holidays. Understanding this is of extreme importance, because let’s face it, no one wants to be sick on the holidays.
How Winter Can Affect Our Hydration

The tricky aspect about winter is that dehydration doesn’t really yell at you in the face during this time of the year, that is it isn’t as evident that our body is dehydrated during this season as it is during the summer. We understand that the summer and heat makes us sweat and lose fluid, and we have an understanding that since we have lost fluid, we need to replace what we’ve lost immediately. Yes this is true, but it would do one well to remember that sweating or having the hot sun beat down on you, isn’t the only reminder we should have that our body needs water. During the winter we tend to be not as active as the summer due to the weather, and this lack of activity sort of diminishes the actual feeling of thirst, but just because you don’t feel thirsty does not mean that your body is hydrated. Dehydration doesn’t always need to be signified by thirst. Sometimes dehydration isn’t shown in any way to us that will make us remember to drink water, and this is why it is very important to regularly remind ourselves to drink water even if our body isn’t really telling us that we need it. Now that begs the question, why do we not feel as thirsty in the winter when compared to other seasons? It is said that the body diminishes the feeling of thirst by up to 40%. This happens because in cold weather, it is natural for our body to respond by constricting our blood vessels. This constriction causes less blood to flow to the extremities (feet, hands, etc.) and more towards the core of our body. The moving of blood to the core of our body is extremely helpful in conserving heat. This method utilized to keep heat within the body actually tricks the body into believing that it is hydrated and that is why the body doesn’t feel thirsty nor does it retain or conserve water. In addition the winter season calls for warmer clothing and this can actually contribute to dehydration a well. The added weight of the clothes makes the body work 10-40% harder to conserve heat and this leads to fluid loss. When you step outside into the cold atmosphere and notice puffs of air when you breathe out, is actually a sign that you are losing water vapor (which is essentially fluid loss). Lastly it isn’t uncommon for a person to sweat during the winter. When physical exertion takes place, even in chilly weather, your body still sweats; however, the cold and often dry air causes our sweat to evaporate quickly which is why we don’t realize this fluid loss. All of these factors combined contribute to the overall understanding of how the winter time can affect our body hydration levels and cause us to be dehydrated without even realizing it.
The Effects of Dehydration & Why It Is Important to Drink Water

Dehydration is not good for the body at all. It is a well known fact that your body needs lots of water to function properly. Water is what protects your tissue, spinal cord, and joints. It helps to keep the tissues in your body moist as well as retain moisture in the sensitive parts of your body such as your mouth, nose, and eyes. Water is also a vital component for proper digestion. Digestion begins with breaking down food and liquid with saliva and saliva is based from water. It helps to dissolve minerals and nutrients which aids in proper digestion, and this in turn makes those minerals and nutrients more accessible for the body to use. In addition water aids in oxygen and breathing. Water helps to moisten oxygen for breathing and is mandatory for proper respiration within the body. It also is a necessity for maintaining the proper body temperature so that your body does not reach a severe state of heat or chills that can harm and potentially kill you. These and a myriad of other jobs and functions in your body are aided by the consumption of water, and failure to drink enough water can delay or halt these functions, resulting in serious consequences to your health. Of course above all, water makes you dehydrated and the state of dehydration is no walk in the park either. Dehydration produces a lot of symptoms within the body that can make day to day life miserable. Some symptoms of dehydration include headaches and migraines, feeling of nausea or actually vomiting, feelings of immense exhaustion no matter the amount of hours you are sleeping, dizziness, lack of tears, dry and rough skin, and dry mouth. In some cases dehydration to the severe level can cause serious issues to the brain and put you into a state of confusion or unconsciousness (fainting in other words). Dehydration can also mess around with your mood and make you very irritable. This is due to the fact that dehydration messes with your brain and makes mental performance and concentration reduced. Both of these being reduced in addition to feeling immense tiredness can altogether increase moodiness in people and make them feel slow or depressed. It’s not hard to see that such symptoms are feelings that nobody ever enjoys experiencing and it can be increasingly frustrated if it gets in the way of doing holiday activities and joining in on the family fun. Don’t let dehydration be the dreadful memory you have this winter and read on to see ways you can combat winter dehydration.
How You Can Stay Hydrated in the Winter
Hot Beverages

If you are feeling like ice cold or even room temperature water isn’t doing the trick on a cold, winter day, then switch it up. Try some hot green tea or hot water with lemon. These drinks both have plenty of water to keep you hydrated while also keeping you warm and cozy. You can even drink some hot chocolate and replace the milk with hot, boiling water instead to help you slowly reach your daily water intake. Coffee contains water as well and although not as much water as drinking well water, it still provides you with some supplementary hydration to reach your water intake for the day, and yes contrary to popular belief, coffee has not actually been proven to further dehydrate you! Although they are considered a mild diuretic (they make you urinate more), there has been nothing that proves the idea that they leave you in a state of increased dehydration.
Dress Up Your Holiday Meals with Fruits and Vegetables

One of the best things about holiday meals would have to not only be the yummy warmth and comfort it brings but the fact that holidays meals tend to be super eye catching in terms of color, making any plain dining table look absolutely delicious and eye-catching. Continue the pretty colors of your holiday meal with lots of colorful fruits and veggies. There are tons of fruits and veggies with a high water content that are absolutely perfect for keeping your body hydrated. Some fruits you can add to your delicious winter meals include strawberries, pineapple, grapefruit, watermelon (that one is a no brainer), peaches, and more! Some vegetables with a high water content include cucumber, celery, iceberg lettuce (hmmm a salad perhaps?), zucchini, radish, peppers, and more! Putting some fruits and veggies alongside your mouthwatering, holiday entrees is definitely not a bad idea for staying hydrated during the season. Pair those savory soups with a delicious salad filled with fresh veggies, high in water content and you have the perfect winter meal for staying hydrated. Once again you are “Eating Your Water.”
Drink a Glass Before Every Meal

Since winter suppresses the body’s knowledge that you are thirsty, it is very common that most people are dehydrated during the winter because they don’t feel thirsty and therefore they forget to drink. Making yourself drink a glass of water before every meal is a good way to get yourself to drink water when you forget between meals. This will aid in making you feel hydrated and keep you from feeling sick or nauseous.
Use a Humidifier

It’s very common for home and work places to get very dry in the winter. This is due to the fact that we spend a lot of time running our heaters to keep us warm. The running of heaters can make the air in your home or workplace very dry, and such dryness can cause dehydration. To combat this, while still using a heater to keep you warm, use a humidifier to ensure that the air around you has moisture to keep you both warm and hydrated. If you do not have a humidifier, you can make one by easily placing a bowl of water near a heat source. This will give off water vapor and moisture in the air that can help keep you hydrated.
If You Get Really Busy, Set Alarms!

Since your body is repressed partially from being able to send signals that you are thirsty when you are cold, it is up to you to know to hydrate yourself consistently throughout the day. If your days are very busy and your mind is often consumed by other things, it is a very wise idea to let your phone take that task up for you. Simply set alarms on your phone for whatever time you see fit for taking a break and drinking some water and then from there you let your phone do the rest. This is a great tip for staying hydrated during the winter because we live in a society where our phone is like our limb. It’s always there and with us no matter what and we feel lost and helpless without it (well most of us). Use having your phone near you as an advantage to keep yourself hydrated and you will have a much happier winter season and holidays!

It seems that in school, there is always a strong emphasis being placed on being active and working with others and that is demonstrated through the many physical education requirements focused on students as well as the consistent encouragement to join a sports team. People love sports, especially America. Many american schools use sports as a way to boast about their diversity and popularity as well as a way to get students critically thinking, working with teammates, and strategizing in a way that gets both their brain thinking and their bodies moving. Sports in high school, college, and even professionally requires a lot more than just moving around a court or kicking a ball. It requires quick thinking and planning alternatives in the last minutes. Sports actually requires a lot of brain power when you think about it, and this brain power coupled with the high activity that people engage in, results in a lot and I meant a lot of energy being spent and lost at very high rates. The Ugly of Sports and Low Hydration

It’s not secret that losing hydration within the body is a big no and is bound to result in some not so fun consequences, but here is a more detailed analysis of what exactly happens to you when your body is not receiving enough water. In a state of dehydration your blood actually becomes thicker. When your blood thickens, your heart rate begins to drop, causing low blood pressure. Your body, when dehydrated actually makes it harder on you to convert fat to fuel and instead your muscles began to burn the small amount of glycogen you carry in your body. Your brain is about 85% water, and even small changes to this percentage can cause serious effects on your mood. It also can simultaneously decrease concentration and alertness which everyone knows are vital traits you need to have when playing sports. It doesn’t look like a good win for you or your team if your concentration and alertness is at an all time low. It is essential to rehydrate the body consistently when you are sweating and becoming active. Failure to do so while also reaching about 3% dehydration can lead to serious ailments such as heat strokes or heat exhaustion. Signs of dehydration include increased fatigue, low motivation, and reduced endurance, all of which are extremely important qualities for superb sports performance. Dehydration harps greatly on your ability to do well, and no amount of practice is going to save you when you feel those signs coming on during a very big game. That is why it is of extreme importance to understand the signs of your body when it is dehydrated and from there make the proper decisions to rectify the decision, because doing so will be the difference between winning and losing.
How to Properly Hydrate Your Body

It is imperative to note that while water is very important in keeping our bodies rehydrated, when doing sports where you are expending energy at higher rates than normal and sweating a lot more, you must strike a balance in hydration through both water and drinks that carry electrolytes. Found a water that has electrolytes? You’ve hit the jackpot. Finding water that carries electrolytes such as perfect hydration water, etc. is so vital. If you find that over time, plain water isnt doing the trick anymore and you need more to jazz up your drink, try always going for dressing it up with fruit and vegetables or even go for some sports drinks that carry both electrolytes and flavor (just be wary when looking for such drinks as they often come with high amounts of sugar!). It is critical to note that when rehydrating your body understand that many people who feel satisfied with the amount of water they have sipped are actually 10-20% dehydrated. Don’t go with your gut feeling that you are satisfied. Often rehydrating your body means going past that “I feel fine” stage and drinking even when you don’t feel like you absolutely need it. Now while saying that don’t guzzle half a bottle after feeling full from water! Drinking more than 10 ounces of water at once, is not the best and can actually lead to hyponatremia. This is caused when you drink more water than what was lost or essentially overhydrate yourself. This can also happen when you replace fluid losses with only plain water that has 0 electrolytes whatsoever. It is best that even when you don’t feel the urge to drink water, aim to still sip about 7-10 ounces of water or a sports drink about every 10-20 minutes while you are engaging in a game or practice. As stated before, try to aim for water with electrolytes or sports drinks that carry electrolytes and low sugar preferrably. If you are feeling hungry during a game or practice, or before you engage in your sport activity, try going for fruit. Fruit can also give you the hydration you need to perform well and it also has electrolytes!
Drinks that You Can Use to Hydrate!

Here are some drinks that you can stock up on to keep you hydrated that are full of electrolytes and minerals and perfect for restoring energy and fluid loss.
Perfect Hydration Water. It is water that fuels you up and tastes exactly like water, but it packs in the necessities that plain water does not have for sports or exercise rehydration such as electrolytes.
Coconut Water. Coconut water hits all the bells when it comes to electorlytes. This tiny but mighty drink packs a good punch of electrolytes such as magnesium, calcium, phophorus, sodium, and potassium. Plus this drink also has a low calorie content.
Horizon Organic Chocolate Milk. I know that sounds weird to whip out chocolate milk during practice, but this is actually really good for you! It has lots of proteins and carbs for good performance as well as calcium and a high water content for restoring energy levels.
Now Without Further Ado Here Are Some Sports Drinks You Must Stay Away From!

Gatorade. Unfortunate considering this sports drink is highly advertised and very popular among sports players to nestle in their bag, but its not as good as you think. Although the drink does have a lot of electrolytes essential for energy, it packs a whole lot more uneccessary ingredients in it that doesn’t make it very healthy for you! You end up digesting a lot of extra sugars that your body really doesn’t need.
Powerade. This drink has a lot of pretty colors and flavors that make it so attractive for people to want to drink, but be warned, this drink has a lot of high fructose corn syrup making it extremely unhealthy for you. Couple that with the fact that the drink also carries brominated vegetable oil which is banned in both Japan and Europe, this drink is not the kindest to your body.
Propel. This drink is not your friend either! Although claiming to have rehydration properties, Propel carries a lot of chemicals that were created in a lab. It contains sucralose which is an artificial sugar that raises blood sugar levels, as well as calcium disodium which is known to block mineral absorption. In addition it also has sodium hexametaphosphae which is known to give headaches. Doesn’t sound like a whole lot of fun to drink!
General Tips on Hydration for Athletes

Look Out For Signs!

Watch out for signs that you are dehydrated when playing! This is a good way to know if your body needs more water and electrolytes, and it helps avoid heat stroke and exhaustion. If you start feeling tired, reduced motivation, and decreased performance during practice or a game that you should understand that you need to amp up how much you are drinking immediately to compensate for that loss in energy! If you start to notice any cramping in your legs and arms that cause difficulty with mobility or discomfort then that is a sign that your body’s energies are low and your muscles are producing lactic acid as a result.

Weigh Yourself!

Weighing yourself is a great way to also understand if your body is in a state of dehydration or not. Weigh yourself before practice or a game. If after you notice that your weight has decreased by about 1-3% then that means you are not getting enough water and important electrolytes in. For every pound lost, compensate by consuming around 20-24 oz. of water or sports beverage of your choice, within two hours of physical activity. In addition, checking the color of your urine can help with knowing whether dehydration has hit you or not. If the color of your urine seems to be a dark yellow then that is a sign you need more water in you. If your urine seems to be a light yellow then this is a sign that your body is maintaining proper hydration levels.

Exactly How Much Water Should You Consume?

It is recommended that before you start your practice or physical activity, you should have about 16-20 ounces of water within two hours prior to physical activity or any type of sports. During the period of physical activity when your body is constantly moving, it is ideal to drink about 8-10 ounces of water every 15-20 minutes of exercise to ensure that you are regaining the energy and electrolytes that you have lost. Post physical activity or exercise it is recommended to weigh yourself and then use the methods shared in the weigh yourself section, to ensure that you take your body to the amount of hydration it needs. Once these precautions are taken care of then there is a stronger chance and probability of a heightened and more alert sports performance over all, plus you won’t have to worry about dealing with horrible nausea, heat, or headaches that can occur, making physical activity sound very daunting.
Knowing When You’ve Had Too Much

Of course having too much of a good thing can still promote serious effects on the body. It’s important to know not only when you are dehydrated, but also when you have drunk too much water. As stated before, too much water can lead to water intoxication known as hypnatremia. This water intoxication causes sodium levels to drop which can prove to be extremely dangerous. It is unfortunately very hard to gauge whether you know you’ve had too much, but your body will normally produce signs that something is wrong. If you start feeling nauseous or sick or your urine has become almost clear looking that is a sign that you are beyond hydration levels and need to tone your water intake down a bit. Watching out and being aware of those signs can help you understand what your body needs to perform at its best.
Americans love their sports. It passes the time, keeps us active, helps us strategize and use our thinking skills while also promoting cooperation and teamwork. There are a lot of benefits that sports can bring and many Americans realize this, but its’ important that while you join the sports craze and make new friends, that you are being aware of your own body and health. A hydrated, healthier you equates to a well performed and happier you, and at least even when you lose, you can be happy knowing that you did the best that you could for your body and your performance.

How Much Water Do You Really Need?
It has already been established that water is no doubt of extreme significance to us. We need water to survive and stay healthy. It fuels our body and gives us the ability to be the best that we can be. Failure to drink the correct amount of water daily leads to headaches, stomach aches, tiredness, nausea, acne, inability to produce tears, and other problems. This of course begs the question that many of us ask. Why is it that even when I do drink a lot of water daily, do I still experience these symptoms of dehydration? Yes, it is without a doubt that water helps cures these symptoms and hydrate us to avoid these horrible symptoms, but we actually need to drink quite a lot of water daily for these symptoms to actually go away as well as be able to experience the many lavish feelings those articles write about when it comes to the consumption of water such as the perfect, glowing, clear skin, the white smile, the shiny hair, etc. You would be surprised to know that many people make the mistake of not drinking the needed amount of water for their body and that is why they are more than stumped as to why they aren’t experiencing everything those articles and dieticians state you will experience when you drink water. The truth is, every person has a unique amount of water that they must consume daily for quite a period of time before they actually start seeing the results that they want to see. Here are some factors that one must take into account when understanding how much water their body needs.
-Daily Amount of Exercise
All of these factors influence the amount of water every individual needs. Many dieticians and people state that everyone should try to strive to drink a total of about 8 glasses of water daily. The truth is, for some individuals 8 glasses of water is too much, and for other individuals 8 glasses of water is too little. For example, think of it this way, someone who lives in a hot and humid environment where sweating is continuously happening, 8 glasses of water may be too little for consumption and the amount of consumption may need to be increased. For someone who lives in an environment where it is actually quite cold and one is not sweating too much, 8 glasses may not be needed since the body isn’t sweating profusely or losing too much hydration in any way. Another example includes thinking about someone who does sports and someone who doesn’t. One who does sports, expels energy a lot quicker and sweats a lot more. This means that their body needs to regain the energy and cool themselves down by drinking even more water. A person who does not exercise or go outdoors would obviously loose energy at a much slower rate and would not need as much water to hydrate themselves because they aren’t losing their energy as quickly or sweating too much. Incorporate these two examples along with the other factors such as diseases, illnesses, age, weight, gender, etc, and you will see why the recommended daily amount of water for every individual is not a set number, rather an individual number that is different for everyone.
So now that you understand that there are many factors that influence the ability to know how much water your body needs to function at optimum levels, you must now decide how to incorporate all these factors to come up with your daily amount of water needed.
Try Hydration Calculators
Thank God for the internet. It provides us with copious amounts of helpful information about everything. I have learned from experience that the internet can sometimes be a joke and other times can be so extremely helpful at the same time. I have often wondered about the question of if I am drinking enough water for myself? After thinking about this question I went onto Google to look for some answers. I came across something called hydration or water calculators. They are calculators that basically ask you personalized questions about your age, exercise, illnesses, weight, gender, etc. and then use the information you have given them to come up with your own estimate of how many ounces of water you should drink daily. I find that doing one is probably not enough. I recommend doing at least 3 or 4 so you can account for any calculators that may not work as properly as well as gain better accuracy of estimated ounces you should shoot for. I found that when doing about 4 of these calculators, the estimated ounces of water I was given was about 80 ounces of water daily which is equivalent to about 5 water bottles daily. Doing these calculators can help immensely with your ability to gage how much you should be drinking to truly see a difference in yourself.
Ask a Doctor
After all that’s what doctors are here for. They are here to help you and guide you in making the best decisions for your body and health. Ask a doctor if you are having trouble understanding where exactly you should be aiming in terms of the amount of ounces to drink. Inform them of any and all factors that may affect how much water you should drink and listen to the advice they give you. They may be able to give you a range of what is too much and what is too little and then you can go from there. They may also be helpful in offering additional resources and information that can help you to understand how much you need to consume for your body. Make sure to notify your doctor of any illnesses you have as sometimes too much liquid can affect those illnesses and make it necessary for you to consume less water than the average person or vice versa.
Water Consumption by Body Weight
If you aren’t really feeling up to doing the first two options, a third option you can do is to follow this bodyweight math rule to determine an estimation of how much to consume. Try taking your weight and dividing it by 2.2. The next step is to multiply your divided number by a number that depends upon your age. If you are younger than the age of 30, multiply the divided number by 40. If you are between 30 and 55, multiply the number by 35. Lastly if you are older than 55, multiply the number by 30. After you have done that divide whatever number you get by 28.3. The number you get is the number of water you should drink in ounces daily. You can divide this number by 8 if you wish to know the amount in cups. Although some may argue with the accuracy of this, following this number may not be a bad start. Try following the recommended amount of water in ounces for a month and track any progress you see in your body and energy. If you aren’t seeing too many changes, then try increasing the amount of ounces you drink by 10 ounces and assess from there. The number you get from this bodyweight tip is definitely not a bad start to understanding your individual body needs for water, and besides you can’t lie that it isn’t fun to calculate!
Staying on Track
Now that you know how much water you should be consuming daily, the next part is now understanding how to change your diet to account for the amount of water you consume. For some people, not a lot of changes will be necessary, for others many changes will be necessary. Some people will receive a number that is far beyond the amount of water they have ever consumed in a day. It might be hard to suddenly train and force yourself to drink more water then you have ever done before and for the first couple of days you may even experience some cramping and bloating from all the water you are not used to drinking. In addition, if you are like me and prefer the good old coffee, tea, soda, and juice to water then drinking more water may prove to be a difficult feat. That’s why I encourage messing around with your plain old water and put some pizzazz into it. Try out these water recipes and you will see yourself craving water more than its unhealthy counterparts such as caffeinated soda, tea, and sugary drinks (keep in mind that these don’t hydrate you whatsoever and actually leave you in a state of even more dehydration than before).

This necessity is everywhere in our world and for grave reason. It is what keeps our world such a favorable place for us humans to live in and it is what keeps all the living organisms from humans to animals and to bugs, healthy and living, The human body is made up of 50-65% water and this water is of extreme importance to our health. Water is what helps provide the body with the abilities to carry out important functions that help digest our food, help us breathe, make our skin clear, help our hair grow, as well as provide us with energy to tackle on the day. Knowing all of the importance that drinking water can do for us means that we need to be in the know of all different types of water out there and what it can do for us. Being aware of the best water to drink for our body helps us to stay away from diseases that bad water can bring, as well as help keep our bodies nourished with the best water. Now I know what you are thinking. What do you mean best water? Isn’t all drinking water the same? What’s the difference between drinking water? There actually are many varieties and types of water that come from different places and can cause a myriad of pros and cons. Let’s examine these types of water.

Types of Water

Tap Water – Tap water is the water known to come through your sinks in your kitchen and bathrooms as well as in your showers, etc. Majority of tap water comes from surface sources such as rivers. Tap water goes through a very distinct process in which it is filtrated by sand filtration to get rid of any floating sand or pieces of rock the river water may have. It also goes through the experience of flocculation in which chemicals help to bring small particles to the surface of the water so they may be collected out of the water. Lastly the element chlorine, is added to water to rid the water of invisible dangers such as bacteria and microorganisms. Once the tap water has gone through all of these processes, the water has now become ready to use in households and restaurants.

Spring Water – Spring water is water that comes from a spring in contrast to rivers or rainwater. Spring water is a type of water most commonly found in water bottles. Spring water generally comes from an underground source and can either be purified or not purified.
Filtered Water – Filtered water is water that is very similar to tap water. This water is known as municipal tap water, which in other words means water from the city that is supplied to the tap. This water is different from regular tap water in the sense that it goes through an extra filtration system to remove the chlorine taste that regular tap water can have. The removal of the chlorine is a result of carbon filters. After this carbon filter, the tap water can sometimes go through a micron filter and from there is ozonated and bottled. In other words this type of water is exactly tap water without that strong chlorine taste.

Purified Water – This type of water is often confused with filtered water in the sense that both go through very similar filtration processes. The difference between these two types; however, is in the fact that purified water goes through even more filtration processes than that of filtered water. These processes include reverse osmosis, distillation, and deionization. Purified water gains its name through the fact that it is considered to be of higher purity than that of any other types of water such as tap water, spring water, and filtered water. The source of purified water is considered to be of no importance because no matter the source, the amount of filtration and purification this water goes through, makes the end result of the water the exact same.

Distilled Water – Distilled water is a type of water that is known to go through the process of distillation. This type of water is boiled out of all the bad contaminants that is contains such as inorganic minerals, metals etc. Contaminants such as these carry very high melting and boiling points that surpass the melting and boiling points of water. As the water is boiled, it eventually evaporates and turns to steam, leaving all of its contaminants behind. This steam is then captured and cooled, becoming distilled water
Pros and Cons of Each Type of Water

Tap Water
Pros: Of all other types of water, tap water is the cheapest!
Cons: Tap water, although being the cheapest, can pull some serious health risks. One con about tap water is the smell and taste of the chlorine. Chlorine makes the water taste funny and weird and can also have some serious health problems. It has been linked to many different forms of cancer, despite it killing off the bacteria and microorganisms. Tap water can also be linked to lead issues that come about from the pipes that tap water is carried through. Lead poisoning is a serious risk and can lead to violent illnessesand death. It seems tap water is the most suitable water option for chores such as washing cars, watering gardens, or flushing water for the toilet. When it comes to drinking this water or using it in the shower for the body, its best to stay away as it can be quite a hit or miss when understanding whether it is extremely safe to use for the body.
Spring Water
Pros: Spring water is known to come from relatively clean underground water sources so it is more likely to be free of contaminants than that of tap water. Spring water is also known to have healthy minerals within it that make the water slightly alkaline in terms of pH. This type of alkalinity can be of great help in reducing acidity in the body and reducing the body to regular, balanced pH levels.
Cons: Unfortunately, despite some of the pros that spring water brings about, many water bottle companies use false advertising to bring a bad reputation to this type of water. The FDA seems to place very loose regulations on the validity of water bottles and where the water comes from. Many water bottle companies claim their water is of natural spring water when in reality it is merely tap water. This is due to the fact that tap water is cheaper in terms of its filtration processes than spring water. In essence majority of bottled spring waters carry chlorine that cause harmful effects on the health. It is advisable if you really want to reap the benefits of spring water, to collect and clean your own spring water, that way you are fully aware of where your water came from. If you plan to buy bottled spring water, it is advisable to do extensive research on where the water bottles come from and the reputation the bottlers have.
Filtered Water
Pros: The pro of drinking filtered water is that it rids tap water of its strong chlorine smell and taste, making the water safer to drink and more tastier than tap water. Of course going through the carbon filter and ridding the water of this chlorine also means that the dangers of developing cancer or other diseases that chlorine can pose are eliminated as well. In all, the extra filtration processes make this water more desirable and cleaner than regular tap water for drinking and showering.
Cons: Filtered water can be of great health and safety if filtered properly; however, improper maintenance or use of water filtration systems can actually cause more damage to your water. For example storage of your filtered water is of extreme importance. Neglecting on how to properly store the water can cause recontamination. Water filters are not too difficult to take care of, but not carrying out proper maintenance regularly or correctly can make your filtered water take a great hit. One has to make sure that they are replacing their filters should any need arise. Another con is that filters are all different and do not remove the same contaminants. Some filters remove bacteria, others only remove chlorine, etc. Failure to know what type of contaminants are in your tap water as well as the correct water filter needed, could be the cause of consuming unclean water.

Purified Water
Pros: Purified water, of all waters, seems to be the water of highest purity and utmost cleanliness. This is due to the fact that the purification systems used on water to purify it, are so great and extensive that the purified water virtually is cleared of all contaminants by the time it has reached all the purification processes. For this reason, this type of water is regarded as the highest in water cleanliness and purity when compared to other types of water. Regardless of the source of the water or the variation of the contaminants, the extensive and detailed water filtration systems that are placed upon it make it the cleanest despite whatever source the water can come from.

Cons: One con about purified water is that despite it being practically rid of majority of contaminants in a way that is of higher purity than other types of water, purified water filters and filtration systems are not equipped to rid water of pesticides. Pesticides that can come from ground water can cause serious health issues to the body. Unfortunately, there aren’t many water filters that can surely rid water of pesticides and over time the consumption of water with pesticides can lead to serious illnesses that can increase the risk of cancer.

Distilled Water

Pros: Distilled water is extremely helpful in the sense that it is rid of a lot of contaminants and chemicals that tap water or various water sources can have. Many municipal water sources can contain calcium that when consumed in too many amounts can cause kidney stone formation. Kidney stones are very painful and drinking distilled water can help alleviate the buildup of calcium that other types of water can cause.
Cons: One con of distilled water is the fact that there are some contaminants known to have boiling and melting points that are lower than water. These are known as volatile organic compounds. These compounds boil off with water, meaning that when the water is steamed, captured, and then cooled, these volatile organic compounds are cooled with it, which is why distillation on its own is not enough to yield healthy and pure water. There may be other filtration steps necessary to yield pure water for consumption.

It is no doubt that every type of water out there poses some serious benefits and some serious consequences. The type of water that you are looking for depends on everyone’s individual preferences /concerns that they have. If you prefer cheap water over expensive water than tap water may be all you really need. If you are okay with spending some extra cash for the highest quality and taste of all other waters then for sure purified water is the best pick for you! It seems the best water that one should aim for is purified water as it has the best reputation for the highest quality of water and cleanliness. Sipping purified water will help you get the energy and hydration needed to move throughout the day and will also be the best way to ensure you are at the lowest amount of risks in terms of poisoning and diseases. Whether you decide to go for this water or not, it is important to note that whichever water and filtration system you decide to buy, it is of the most importance you do the best extensive research on your water, the packaging of your water, where your water comes from and the filtration systems you need to invest in. Being smart about the tools you use to purify your water and being aware about your water in general, is the best step you can take in knowing the best water to drink for you and your family!

Top 5 Summer Hydration Tips for the Family

As summer approaches, the family fun begins. Summer is probably the most active time of the year in which family members engage in way more activities and spend a lot of summer days in the sun for some action packed fun! Of course though, more activity in the blistering heat means your body is sweating more often and losing its acidic balance. Throwing your body off balance leads you vulnerable to nausea, headaches, dizziness, dry mouth, fever, and even vomiting or fainting, all activities that are not fun to endure especially if a loved one in the family is enduring it! Beat the heat and stay hydrated with these top 5 summer hydration tips that the family can utilize today to ensure that they are having good old clean fun while their body is too!
1.Drink Water!

It’s the oldest tip in the book of hydration tips and I feel it’s the most obvious and plain tip of all, but it is of extreme importance. Funny enough no matter how many times a person knows they must drink water, not many people actually end up getting the recommended daily intake of water needed for their bodies to thrive and work at optimum levels. People often complain about breakouts, tough dry skin that no lotion could ever save, dry and chapped lips that only get more dry the more you apply chapstick, and a feeling like you are an old person that can’t get out of bed to save your life. Sound familiar? It’s a sign that your body is dehydrated and it is also the first sign that you aren’t consuming enough water for your body to work and flush breakouts, make your lips and skin softer, and provide the energy you need to plow through the fun action packed summer days. The amount of water your body needs is on a case by case basis. A dietician can’t tell you really a general amount because the truth to the matter is that everyone’s bodies are different and therefore everyone’s bodies need different amounts of water. Male or females require different amounts of water. The amount of activity you engage in impacts how much water you need to drink, and your weight even plays a role in understanding the correct amount of water needed for you to be hydrated. It appears that some experts have thrown out the number of 91 ounces of water daily is enough to keep all women hydrated, but some women work harder and expend more energy and need more hydration than 91 ounces. Some don’t expend a lot of energy and stay at home and maybe don’t need as much as 91 ounces to keep themselves hydrated. Try to engage you and your family into taking hydration or water level calculators on the internet to gage the idea. These calculators will ask questions about daily hours spent on physical activity, gender, location, weight, and age to calculate a number that is roughly unique to you and is the amount of water you should try to consume. Have you and your family take more than 1 of these online so that you can kind of get an idea of the amount of water you and your family should be consuming. Of course this is the internet and sometimes the internet can just be plain wrong. Try sticking to the recommended amount of ounces of water the calculator told you to drink and gage how you feel. Is your skin softer? Do you have more energy? Do you feel happier and less sick? Is your skin clearing up? If yes then you are finally drinking enough water! If not, then try to increase your daily amount by 10 ounces and see from there! Encourage your entire family to drink their recommended amount by making it into a game. Make it seem fun and enjoyable and you will see how easy it is for you and your family to stay on track and hydrated in the heat!

2.Make Smart Food Choices for You and Your Family!

Proper hydration for families during the summertime doesn’t just start with water, it also starts with eating right and getting enough of the right foods into your body. Moderately active women and men under the age of women should try to consume around 2 ½ – 3 cups of vegetables. For smaller children, you can keep this to around 1 – 2 cups of vegetables! The USDA (United States Department of Agriculture), recommends fruit intake for anyone under 30 should be around 2 cups of fruit daily, while those over 30 should reduce to 1 ½ cups of fruit. Limit dairy intake to about 1 cup daily. Grain intake should be around 3 -5 servings for adults and 2-3 servings for children. One serving can be characterized as 1 slice of bread or ½ cup of cooked rice, pasta or readymade cereal. Attempt to realign your family’s daily habits to fit the recommended amount of food! Of course this is a lot of work and can be considered very draining to do so try to make it fun! Engage your family to sit down and make a food chart of all the meals you plan to have and where you can incorporate as much of the recommended food groups as you can! Don’t stress out if it’s not exact, the important thing is that you are trying! Trying to complete this task is essential in hydration because it ensures that your body gets the proper amount of healthy fats, carbs, and sugars needed to take care of itself. Water is what can give the body the energy to burn these off in replacement for energy and other bodily functions needed to keep your body healthy! In addition, certain foods have water within them and this can help you get to your daily water goal when drinking water has become too boring! Foods with high water include tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, watermelon, spinach, strawberries and more! Incorporating these types of fruits and vegetables can be a good way to get your recommended intake of fruits and veggies while also nailing your daily water goal so that you can reach that perfect summer hydration for you and your family! Make it fun. Try to make food colorful and encourage the family to head to the kitchen and cook together. Try out some new recipes and you will see how eating right and staying hydrated is extremely rewarding!

3.Check pH Levels

It cannot be stressed enough just how very important your pH levels can be to your hydration. They are the telltale sign that something in your body is off and you need to consume or replace something in your body to fix that. Blood should have a pH level ranging from 7.35-7.45. Anywhere above 7.45 yields basic blood that can yield many symptoms such as kidney diseases or muscle spasms and nausea. Too acidic blood at 7.35 or below can yield the perfect environment for bacteria, viruses, and even cancer cells to grow leaving you in a very vulnerable and sickly state. Following the correct amount of water and food needed daily helps keep your body on balance as much as possible but sometimes there are times we cannot resist going for foods and drinks such as soda, sugar, processed foods, fatty foods, and so on. These foods can throw us off track and it’s important to know which track we’ve been thrown off of. Try to engage in regularly testing your pH levels with either urine or blood tests at the doctors or collecting your own saliva test at home. You can buy regular pH test strips and follow the directions to yield where your pH levels seem to lie. Understanding whether your body has become too alkaline or acidic is the first step in hydrating your body properly of what you need. If your body is too acidic try to bring it back to balance with alkaline rich foods. Perfect Hydration water is one way to do that! This water has alkaline properties that help bring the body out of it’s acidic state so that your body is balanced! You can also try to consume foods high with alkaline such as sweet potatoes, carrots, ginger, broccoli, eggplant, onion, pumpkin, avocadoes, limes, almonds, almond milk and many more! These foods can help bring your pH levels back to balance in no time! These foods can help lower your pH level back to a healthy balance.

4.Smoothie Time!

Of course drinking water and eating fruits and veggies on the daily all the time can get boring. After a while, the family can feel as if these routines have become kind of boring and boring is what we don’t want. When people become bored of routine they often break these routines in search of something new and this can lead to choosing to eat bad foods and consume soda and sugary drinks. The only way to stay hydrated and stay on the path to hydration for the family during the summer time is to switch it up! Try going for some yummy fresh fruit and veggie smoothies to get the family awake and happy. Smoothies are a great way to incorporate fruits and veggies for picky eaters and can also be a great way to curb those strong sugar cravings that can sometimes hit. They are also full of fruits and veggies which can make them very heavy and great for breakfasts on the go when you don’t have enough time in the mornings but still need some energy! Make it fun with your family by experimenting and trying to make your own smoothies. Smoothies are incredibly versatile and you can mix and match various bases such as regular milk, coconut milk, soy milk, or almond milk. That way you are constantly excited to make new smoothies and try something different out and you still can get the needed water from the fruits and veggies you incorporate, keeping you and your family hydrated during the hot and energy filled summer days. You can even put them in very cute or flashy cups and take them on the go with you to sip on throughout the day.

5.Infused Water

Another way to liven up the sometimes drab and mundane task of drinking water, is by also trying fruit or vegetable infused waters! This is a great way to drink your water with a little fun kick on days where you aren’t feeling like drinking plain old water and are craving to reach out to those sugary juices or carbonated sodas. It is so easy too! Simply pour yourself some water, cut up whatever fruit or vegetable of your desire, put it in the refrigerator the night before so that the fruits and veggies have time to infuse in the water, pull it out in the morning, and voila! Ready to drink and extremely delicious. Combine various items together such as pineapple and mint, strawberry and lime, oranges and blueberries, mangoes and pineapples and more for some extremely yummy water! In this way you get your recommended amount of fruit with your recommended amount of water and you curb those cravings for soda and extremely sugary fruit drinks. This drink will be naturally sweet because of all the natural sugars that come with the fruits and veggies and can be the healthiest and sweet hydration replacement for your family’s daily minute maid fruit punch or coke consumption. You can even try sparkling water for a fizzy taste on days when you are really craving a strong soda!

Hydration during the summer doesn’t have to be boring compromises or putting a stop to the fun! Simply incorporate these tips into your summer fun adventures and watch as your family floods with high energy and healthy bodies to new journeys that await you wherever you go! A hydrated body means a happier body and happier body means a happier you!

Have you ever wondered why your skin is so rough and pale or you just can’t seem to get rid of those horrible breakouts that plague your face on the daily no matter how many expensive cleansers and toners you seem to apply?
Ever feel strong headaches and dizziness that no amount of sleep and medication can cure? One simple word.
You are experiencing all of this because you have neglected your body of it’s necessary and constant need for hydration to perform important bodily functions and ensure optimal energy levels.
Your body has been denied the right to balanced pH levels to ensure that your body is performing at its best, and it’s beginning to show.
 No need to fear.
This article helps you to understand the importance of pH levels, causes and types of conditions that arise from unbalanced pH levels, signs of unbalanced pH levels, how to test your pH levels and what you can do to restore, replenish, and rehydrate your body, so that you can be at your very best.
Understanding how to keep your body in perfect hydration begins with basic knowledge about the causes, symptoms, and ways you can understand the signs that your body needs hydration and help.

Significance of balanced pH levels

pH basically stands for potential hydrogen. pH is measured on a scale of 1-14, with the numbers 1-6 being acidic pH levels, 7 being neutral, and 8-14 being alkaline or basic.
A human’s blood should have a pH level between 7.35 – 7.45 meaning it is slightly basic and anything above or below leaves the body prone to horrible symptoms and diseases.
Acidic pH levels or acidosis means that the blood has low oxygenation levels and a pH level at 7.35 or below. This opens the door for viruses, bacteria, and diseases to take over.
Highly acidic blood can also leave one vulnerable to horrible fates such as cancer or diabetes.
Our pH is a very helpful defense to horrible diseases and if not balanced, leaves the door open to very harmful consequences.
Likewise is the case of blood that is at or above 7.45.
A high alkaline or basic state, also known as alkalosis can lead to certain diseases such as kidney disease, and can also lead to serious symptoms such as coma or seizure.
Obviously the diseases I’ve listed come with very hard challenges and strict changes in lifestyles that can be emotionally, mentally, and physically draining to the body. All of this can be avoided with balanced pH levels in your body.
A balanced pH level means a healthy lifestyle filled with lots of happiness and energy as well as a lifestyle void of heartbreaking and exhausting diseases that can very much lead to death.
Balancing your pH levels is another way of hydrating your body to the best that it can be.

Causes/Types of Acidosis

There are two types of acidosis that can be present in the human body. One is known to be respiratory acidosis and the other can be referred to as metabolic acidosis.

Respiratory Acidosis

Respiratory acidosis is when the body accumulates a lot of carbon dioxide within the blood stream and other bodily fluids. Low oxygen levels and high carbon dioxide levels in the body can lead to an acidic pH level. An accumulation of carbon dioxide can be attributed to the body’s lungs being unable to remove the amount of carbon dioxide that needs to be exhaled out of the body.
This is normally caused by preexisting conditions in a person such as sleep apnea, lung problems, asthma and more. Respiratory acidosis can be divided into chronic and acute. Acute respiratory acidosis occurs quickly and needs quick medical attention, while chronic respiratory acidosis occurs over time and can sometimes have no symptoms as a result of the body adapting to the acidity levels.
Causes of the acute form include cardiac arrest, various lung disorders, any conditions that can affect breathing, or an overdose on sedatives. Causes of the chronic form include asthma, COPD or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, obesity and more.

Metabolic Acidosis

Metabolic acidosis is simply when the body has too much acid and can happen when the body’s kidneys are not removing enough acid. There are different types of metabolic acidosis such as diabetic acidosis, hyperchloremic acidosis, and lactic acidosis.
Diabetic acidosis occurs when acidic substances known as ketones build up in the body,  This is the result of the body having diabetes with not enough insulin, causing dehydration. Fat is burned for fuel instead of carbs and this causes ketone buildup. Hyperchloremic acidosis is caused by a loss in the substance known as sodium bicarbonate, The loss of this substance can be attributed to laxative abuse or kidney problems.
Causes of various types of acidosis can also be attributed to consumption of highly acidic drinks and foods. Foods that can greatly alter the pH level of your body and make you more acidic include white sugar, grains such as rice, processed foods, alcohol, dairy products, and supplements or food with very high amounts of protein. Too much fruit past the recommended daily intake of fruit can also cause high acidity levels in the body such as peaches, mangoes, tomatoes, blueberries, pomegranate, and more.

Causes/Types of Alkalosis

Like acidosis, alkalosis can be divided into two categories known as metabolic alkalosis and respiratory alkalosis.

Respiratory Alkalosis

Respiratory alkalosis is caused by rapid or shallow breathing that can cause carbon dioxide levels within the body to drop and make the blood and other fluids too alkaline, meaning the pH levels have become too low.
It appears that the main cause for respiratory alkalosis to occur is when hyperventilation happens frequently. Hyperventilation is the main reason for low carbon dioxide levels and rising pH levels in the body.
Hyperventilation can result from drug use, infections, anxiety, asthma, heart attack and more.

Metabolic Alkalosis

Metabolic alkalosis is the result of the body gaining too much acid and losing too much base.
This can occur from vomiting, electrolyte loss, alcohol misuse, laxatives and more.
Other types of metabolic alkalosis include hypochloremic alkalosis in which chloride levels in the body decline rapidly from throwing up or sweating frequently.
Hypokalemic Alkalosis occurs when potassium levels in the body are too low.
This is the result of kidney disease or excessive sweating. The body needs potassium.
Without this important mineral, organs such as the heart, muscles, and systems such as the digestive and nervous system, fail to work as they are supposed to.

Symptoms of Highly Acidic Blood

Learning how to restore, rehydrate, and replenish the body back to its correct pH level is extremely imperative. Doing so begins with first understanding the signs that there is something off with your pH levels to begin with.
If there is no proper understanding put towards knowing the signs of off pH levels than perfect hydration for the body cannot be reached. Signs attributed to acute  respiratory acidosis include restlessness, headaches, confusion, or anxiety.
Signs attributed to chronic respiratory acidosis include memory loss, personality changes, and can also lead to a feeling of tiredness, confusion, and shortness of breath. Symptoms related to metabolic acidosis include headaches, confusion, tiredness, lack of appetite, nausea, fast heartbeat and more.
Understanding whether you are experiencing these symptoms are not can be helpful in correctly diagnosing exactly what is wrong with your pH levels and can lead you to the correct steps needed to rehydrate yourself.

Symptoms of Highly Basic/Alkaline Blood

Respiratory alkalosis can be characterized by a myriad of symptoms such as confusion, dry mouth, tingling in the arms, shortness of breath, bloating, heart palpitations, numbness and more. Metabolic alkalosis can have symptoms very similar to that of respiratory alkalosis such as nausea and confusion, but other symptoms can accompany this condition as well such as muscle spasms, hand tremors, and even more serious symptoms such as stupor or a coma.
It is important to recognize if you are frequently experiencing these signs, as it is very much a red flag that pH levels in your body are not where they should be and need to be changed immediately to ensure proper hydration and a healthy you.

How to Measure pH Levels

In addition to understanding symptoms of your body to gage whether your pH levels are too basic or acidic, you can also test your pH levels at home with a very simple and basic kit! You can simply head to the closest drug store and purchase a pH test strip pack.
You can test your pH with your saliva by waiting at least two hours after eating food. Consistently swallow your saliva for about a couple of minutes until you believe your saliva is clean and place the pH strip in your mouth.
Follow the directions for accurate results and understand what your pH is! You can also get blood and urine tests done from your doctor to achieve the best and most reliable results! From there you can gage whether you need to put more acid into your body or make your pH levels more basic.

Restore, Replenish, Rehydrate Your Body Acidity!

Eat foods that are more acidic! Aim for eating good amounts of fruits and proteins as well as rice and other grains. Foods such as turkey, cottage cheese, macaroni, chicken, beef, buttermilk, eggs, gluten and more are all acidic foods that can help pull you out of your high pH levels.
Refrain or reduce the amount of alkaline foods that you eat such as soybean sprouts, spinach, dried fig, dried apricots, chard, tofu, avocado, coconut, cucumber etc.
Look up charts that list acidic foods and alkaline foods and adjust your diet accordingly.
Be careful though! Rehydrating your body to its correct pH level is important, but be wary that too much acidic food consumption can push your body to a high acidic fluid level which is equally damaging and dehydrating to the body.

Restore, Replenish, Rehydrate Your Body Alkalinity!

Duh! Eat more foods that are basic! Drink perfect hydration water. It helps rehydrate and restore alkalinity levels in your body if it becomes too acidic. Refrain from processed foods, high amounts of fruits, dairy, and more.
Attempt to consume more vegetables and nuts as these categories of foods are mainly known to have alkaline properties in them. Try creating tonics by blending water with various juices and vinegars. Lemon water is one tonic that is common for restoring alkalinity within the body and keeping you hydrated. Another tonic includes consuming 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar a day along with a glass of water to restore your pH levels and get your body hydrated and back on track.
Try adjusting your diet by keeping track of how much acidic food you consume and attempt to incorporate two alkaline foods for every one acidic food or drink you take in. Simple changes in your diet can help restore your body back to its natural pH levels.

It’s common for many people to think that the only way to hydrate one’s body is to constantly drink water, consume a lot of fruit and vegetables and everything will be alright. Yes these are good for you, but simply too much of one can be enough to throw your pH levels off and leave your body unbalanced and prone to infections and diseases.
Practice proper breathing, attempt to stay calm and as stress free as possible, and watch out for the recommended daily amount of every food category you must consume.
Understand how much fruit, vegetables, grains, meat, and dairy to consume on the daily and make lifestyle changes to fit those recommendations. Exercise the recommended amount on a weekly basis and attempt not to over exert yourself.
Practicing these changes and altering your lifestyle is the best way to ensure you are hydrating your body to its maximum productivity and potential.
Making these changes a reality is the best way to ensure your body’s pH levels stay on track constantly. Follow these steps and you will never feel lethargic, slow, and moody ever again.
Proper hydration starts now and you will realize that one you start taking care of your pH levels, your bodily functions will work at optimum levels, leaving you the healthiest and strongest you have ever felt.
Take this knowledge and become an expert on how to restore, replenish, and rehydrate like a pro!

How does perfect hydration work?

Where to get the best alkaline water?

What’s Alkaline Water?

The pH scale is something that most people have learnt in school. The pH level of a substance determines whether it is acidic or alkaline, based on the scale of 1 to 14. Anything that ranks high on the pH scale is considered to be alkaline. Regular water generally has a pH level of 6 or 7, while alkaline water has a pH level between 8 and 9.5. It is believed that the high pH level of the water can yield a number of different benefits for the body, and that’s also the very concept of the alkaline diet.

Perfect hydration.

To start with, what does perfect hydration produce? Perfect hydration produces alkaline water. Alkaline water is water with a pH of 9.5 and above. They differ differently from the normal water we drink which seems to be acidic in nature. We have recently discovered that water from rocks and other natural sources are alkaline in nature. By treating them and sending them through the taps, they have changed to acidic water.

The natural water that is alkaline in nature has several minerals in them that has several advantages to us. As more research is conducted all over the globe, more and more facts are surfacing about the benefits of 9.5 pH water.

Why then do you need perfect hydration? What are the advantages you and your body stand to gain by drinking perfect hydration alkaline water? We are going to look at that and also how alkaline water is produced.

How good is The Concept?

The alkaline diet says that eating foods that have high pH will neutralize the acids in the body, and thereby, many health problems can be kept at bay. In this diet, people need to focus more on fresh foods and veggies, and as a matter of practice, all forms of meat and dairy must be cut from the food chart. No wonder, many people find the changes to be difficult to adopt. As such, drinking alkaline enhanced water seems like a better and easy way out, as the benefits claimed are almost the same.

How do we produce alkaline water?

In the production of alkaline water, there are three main methods used. Though they might differ in terms of technicality, the end result remains the same. Let us see the three main methods.

Making alkaline water with a distiller:

The function of a distiller is to convert normal water into distilled water. Distilled water is the water that is first converted into steam. The steam is condensed afterwards to give us water. This method is highly efficient in destroying the impurities present in the water and this changes the pH of the water to alkaline. This is one of the most effective ways of treating water and getting alkaline water.

Addition of alkaline ingredients to water:

There are some alkaline substances that when added to water, the process produces alkaline water. Lemon water is one of such substances. Lemon water is very alkaline in nature and has been used for long to detoxify the liver and kidney. Lime water has also been used relieving stress in fatigue situations. Another substance is the pH drops. The pH drops when added to water, instantly alters the pH to 9 and above. This gives incredible energy boost to anyone drinking it. This is by far the fastest method of producing alkaline water.

Using a water ionizer in the production:

The ionizer has more functions than a normal water filter. It works on a system that changes the structure of water and transforms it into an ionized state. At the ionized state, electrolytes are formed that has several benefits for the users.

What are the advantages attached to drinking perfect hydration?

Perfect hydration California have a reputation of producing one of the best alkaline water in the country. The process of production is ultra-purified which gives it several advantages. Let us have a look at them.

Alkaline water neutralizes the acidity of the stomach and makes digestive process smoother. When you take too much spicy foods, alcohol or you overeat and get stressed, your stomach acids are over secreted and this might push the acids back into the esophagus. This return into the esophagus by the stomach acid will lead to an influx which ends up causing heartburn for you. When this scenario occurs frequently, it can lead to a permanent damage to the walls of the esophagus or even trigger cancer cells in the body. By drinking alkaline water along with eating some alkaline food, you help the body neutralize the effects of this acid leading to a better digestion. A better digestion leads to hydration for you. The cases of dehydration will be lower if you drink a 9.5 pH water.

#7. Helps in maintaining body pH:

For this point, most people will point to the fact that there is homeostasis that keeps the body pH in check no matter what you eat. However, what are the sacrifices that has to be made before a balanced pH level is achieved? Drinking perfect water helps in avoiding such a scenario. By neutralizing the acid in the body, alkaline water has altered the body pH without homeostasis having to sacrifice anything to achieve that balance.

#8. Detoxify the skin:

This is one of the best advantages that drinking perfect water can do for you. The toxins found in the skin are cleared by alkaline water, keeping your skin radiant and clean. This has solved many problems. You don’t have to spend lots of money on making dermatology appointments or regularly visiting skin care clinics. By simply raising a bottle of perfect hydration, your skin is well on its way to detoxification.

#9. Chances of getting osteoporosis are lowered:

Osteoporosis is the weakening of the bone due to lack of some vital minerals in the body. The bones become weak as a result of this. These are some of the advantages that makes perfect hydration of vital importance.

#11. Improved Kidney Life:

Your normal daily diet leaves behind acid waste in your body which ultimately gets absorbed directly into a person’s bloodstream which causes their kidneys to work twice as hard virtually weakening them. By reducing the acids in one’s body and removing toxins through alkaline water a person can drastically increase the longevity of their kidney’s and overall bodily performance.

Dual Function.

Perfect hydration has double functions. Nutrition and hydration. It doesn’t just keep you hydrated all day, it also has nutritional advantages. You don’t have to go after supplements to get some vital minerals and vitamins for the body. Gotten from natural sources like stream and fountains, alkaline water has several minerals that are vital to the functionality of the body.

The hydration offered by perfect hydration is aimed at restoring your energy level and helps you stay perfect.

How does perfect hydration work?

The antioxidant level in alkaline water can be measured using ORP. An ORP sensor and meter is used in this measurement. The ORP is a measure of water capacity to influence the pH level of the water. It can either increase or reduce the pH level by either releasing or accepting electrons in a chemical reaction in the body.

In chemistry class, we are told that the process of oxidation involves the loss of electrons by elements. Reduction on the other hand is the opposite of oxidation. It involves acceptance of electrons by an element.

When the ORP is high, it implies that the water has several extra negatively charged ions that will instantly form bonds with the excess cations in the system. Once the cations bind with the anions, they neutralize oxygen free radicals or the acidic cations. These electrons are available afterwards to partake in other reactions that will neutralize other free cation radicals.

The small nature of alkaline water makes them to easily penetrate the skin and quickly combine with the free cations to neutralize them. The ionization process reduces the large water cluster to Micro cluster consists of 5 to 6 molecules per cluster. These small clusters formed after that will give excellent hydration and higher solubility to the water.

Where to get the best alkaline water?

There are several companies that produce alkaline water. To find perfect hydration though, get perfect hydration alkaline water. They are produced to embody all the properties that alkaline water is supposed to have. Both in terms and hydration, perfect hydration is the perfect alkaline water for you.

Alkaline Water vs. Purified Water:

Alkaline water is a water that has a pH range of 9.5 and above. Purified water on the other hand is ordinary water that has been filtered. The advantages of taking alkaline water far outweighs that of purified water as we will read below.

Alkaline water vs. distilled water:

Distilled water is chemically made. It doesn’t have the properties of even ordinary water and can therefore not be confused with alkaline water. Distilled water is mostly useful in laboratory work. The health advantages of alkaline water are absent from distilled water.

Alkaline water vs. mineral water:

Mineral water is considered to be the purest by some people. The water is natural in all forms and even though it contains some particles. It can be regarded as part of the acidic water family.

How then does alkaline water helps you attain perfect hydration?

Here are some of the advantages that this water has in terms of health. Let us take a look at them one after the other.

1. Better digestion, perfect hydration:

A lot of times the body is trying to keep the pH level in check. The acidity nature of your food interferes with the body’s digestive process.

2. High antioxidant power:

Alkaline water has been found out to contain lots of antioxidants. Antioxidants help us fight diseases. Their primary function in the body is help fight pathogens. Drinking alkaline water has the potential to boost your immune system. With your immune system strong, you have a very low chance of catching flu, cold or even contacting serious diseases like cancer. The free radicals that cause this diseases in the body will be neutralized by alkaline water. It then proceeds to convert the free radicals to oxygen that your cells use in energy production. With energy in your body, dehydration will be very rare to you thus attaining perfect hydration by drinking alkaline water.

3. Higher energy levels:

When you have high energy levels, then you will hardly get dehydrated. By drinking normal water, your energy levels increase and you kick out dehydration. Alkaline water offers much more in this category. The efficiency level at which alkaline water delivers nutrients throughout your body is far superior to that of normal tap water. This will help your body have energy always. When you have energy all the time, then you have a perfect hydration system.

Obese people drink more water. This is due to the fact that their body has accumulated large amount of toxins actively stored away in fat tissue. The excess amount of this toxins causes several problems among which dehydration is one of them. The toxins are also a source of acid and when there is too much acid, that acid can’t be easily processed and excreted, so the body holds onto fat as an adaptive mechanism, resulting in weight gain. Reducing the toxins and acidity level in the body can help solve some of these health issues. Drinking alkaline water will prevent the storage of those fats, eliminate the toxins and reduce the acidic level. After this, the person is always hydrated.

5. It is natural:

Unlike what most people believe, alkaline water comes from natural sources. Alkaline water is found in the rocks, streams and mountain falls. The water is ionized by allowing it flow over the rocks and down the waterfall. The water is now treated to return back to its natural state, free from all contamination. It is a pure form of water from nature and that is probably why most of us enjoy it.

6. Maintains your body’s pH level:

Most people don’t think that the body’s pH level has a lot to contribute to your hydration state. Take note now. A highly dehydrated person has an unbalanced pH level. Homeostasis helps keep the body pH balanced no matter what you drink or eat, no doubt about that. But how exactly does it do that and is there any substance that will be sacrificed to make such level pH possible. Alkaline water will not change your body pH level per se but it will neutralize the excess acidic food contents we eat on a daily basis.

7. Smaller molecules size:

The absorption capacity for alkaline water is much better due to the small molecule size. Smaller molecules are able to penetrate the skin, making them easier to absorb. The higher absorption rate of alkaline water makes it very hard for dehydration to take place. The water has reached virtually all parts of the body. For this reason, also, you are able to achieve perfect hydration by drinking alkaline water.

8. Various ionized minerals present:

The alkaline water has several ionized minerals present in it. This increases its level of efficiency in terms of blood circulation. The highly efficient blood circulation in the body will reduce dehydration and ensure that your body works at maximum capacity. You are thus perfectly hydrated and highly efficient.

9. Alkalinized blood and urine:

Drinking alkaline water leads alkalinized blood and urine. This two features are partially responsible for super hydrating status of the body after drinking alkaline water.

Osteoporosis can lead to bone fracture which can make a person defective for life. Drinking alkaline water reduces the chances of that as the alkaline nature of the water neutralizes the effects of our acidic food. To avoid this condition, ensure to drink alkaline water whenever we consume acidic food.

It might stop cancer:

The case of cancer is quite a complicated one. They are caused by metastatic cells in the body. Though research is still on-going, there are indications that drinking alkaline water can stop these cells from rapidly generating. The high level of antioxidants in alkaline water stops the activity of free radicals, the major cells responsible for kick starting cancer.
