The pH scale can range from 0-14 and this scale is based on the concentration of the hydrogen ion within pure water. This is known to be neutral which means it has a pH of 7. Anything with a pH below 7 is considered to be acidic while anything above 7 is considered to be basic. The lower the hydrogen concentration the more basic the solution is and the higher the concentration of hydrogen ions is, the more acidic it becomes. It is quite easy for people to confuse basic and alkaline as the same thing. Both of these terms do not mean the same thing, but they certainly can relate to each other. Think of the term alkaline as not “basic” rather things that can be added to a substance that can make that substance become basic. That is typically what is meant when referring to alkaline. So, in this sense think of alkaline water as water that had certain things added to it, in order to make the water even more basic. Many factors influence how plain tap water becomes alkaline water. Inorganic salts such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, and sodium are some of the compounds that are typically added to plain tap water in order to bring the pH level of the water to a more basic step. Normally, tap water falls at a pH of around 7, but when these inorganic salts are added, it can bring the water’s pH level down to a level of around 8 or 9. The higher amounts of these total dissolved solids, the more basic the water becomes.

There are so many more benefits that I can add, but I think you get the overall message of why alkaline water is so great for your body and overall health.
